Hello President Elect Trump,
In September 2016, The DEA sought to place an emergency scheduling on Mitragyna Speciosa (Kratom). An act that not only creates major border issues but also creates issues for the many people who utilize this plant as a form of herbal medicine.
At present, Dec. 4, 2016, the DEA has been forced to accept public comment by massive outcry, a protest was launched at whitehouse.gov website and in Washington DC. Public comments were accepted until 12/1/16, and over 22,000 people commented at over 99 percent in favor of keeping Mitragyna Speciosa legal and unscheduled by the DEA
I bring to your attention the following article written on September 8th, by the CRE:
http://www.thecre.com/forum8/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/CRE-DEA-Kratom-1.pdf
Because Kratom is LEGAL in Canada (and Mexico), outlawing it in the US creates a potentially multi billion dollar issue for our great country, to quote the CRE: "DEA’s Action on Kratom Violates the US-Canada Regulatory Cooperation Council (RCC)
Agreement"
Canada considers Mitragyna Speciosa to be a "beneficial herb" Illegalizing it in the US would put it in the hands of dangerous drug smugglers in Mexico and Canada. Instead of being legally imported it would change to being illegally smuggled. I'm sure there is more here than meets the eye.
I bring to your attention that much medical study has been done on this plant, that shows it to be a potential safe replacement for Opioids, in a time where America is in crisis over Opioid addictions, Mitragyna Speciosa can potentially save many lives if allowed to continue being legal for the people and the scientists. Largely due to the profits such Opioid addiction gives to the pharmaceutical industry, the DEA/FDA support making this plant a schedule 1...yet their drugs kill over 20,000 patients a year on average, many of whom turn to street drugs in desperation after being cut off of their pain meds. Kratom helps people avoid such life threatening addictions to Opioids when searching for pain relief. Keeping Kratom from the people makes no sense!

**PLEASE NOTE: Kratom has been used for various ailments in Asia & Chinese Medicine for over 1000 years.
Finally Sir, I bring to your attention, a response to the DEA's desire to schedule Mitragyna Speciosa (Kratom), which answers to the lies the DEA stated in order to schedule the plant. This was put together in conglomeration by Pinney Associates and the Kratom Community. This document provides valid proof of research in the medical world as well as expresses the data proving that Kratom alone has killed ZERO people while Opioids have killed hundreds of thousands. Kratom is an effective herbal alternative that helps many people who would otherwise live in extreme pain to be positive contributing members of society.

Some theorize that the DEA would like to profit more from the illegal drug trade, and Kratom is blocking their path. NDNR writer Jillian Stansbury states: "Prescriptions for opiate-based analgesics have skyrocketed in the last decade, according to DEA statistics,2which many people report is an inciting factor that ultimately leads to heroin addiction. The opiate industry itself is almost nothing but dark – troubled by the limited availability of raw material, low yields, and the byproduct of toxic wastes, in addition to the addiction, associated crime, and high mortality and morbidity.3 Furthermore, an attempt to gain access to poppy raw materials the United States may be a hidden agenda in the US efforts to muscle its presence into Afghanistan. Canadian economics professor, Michel Chossudovsky, reported that “Heroin is a multibillion dollar business supported by powerful interests, which requires a steady and secure commodity flow. One of the “hidden” objectives of the war [in Afghanistan] was precisely to restore the CIA sponsored drug trade to its historical levels and exert direct control over the drug routes.” 4 Full article here: http://ndnr.com/autoimmuneallergy-medicine/opiate-addiction/

Big pharma is paying someone... follow the corruption trail... Kratom is eating their profits by un-hooking Opiate addiction
Follow the trail... who signed off on the intent to schedule is who is getting paid. The next time you vote... remember to NOT VOTE for those who you know are corrupt and care more about the payoffs they are getting than the people they are supposed to be serving. The truth is in this document. Our own United States Secretary of Health, ignored the scientific studies and quietly signed off on the DEA's request, without requiring any data... why? $$$ Public servant, I think not.
DEA Admits Kratom has medical value! A step forward...
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/09/15/the-dea-wants-to-ban-another-plant-researchers-say-the-plan-is-insane/
Melvin Patterson is quoted in the article as saying:
"I don't see it being Schedule 2 [or higher] because that would be a drug that's highly addictive," he said. "Kratom's at a point where it needs to be recognized as medicine. I think that we are going to find out that probably it does."
He cautioned that research would be necessary to know for sure how to best regulate the drug, and it's safest to put kratom on Schedule 1 in the meantime. Still, Patterson noted that public response to the ban has been overwhelming.
"That was eye-opening for me personally," he said. "I want the kratom community to know that the DEA does hear them. Our goal is to make sure this is available to all of them.".

ABSTRACT: Mu-opioid receptor agonists represent mainstays of pain management. However, the therapeutic use of these agents is associated with serious side effects, including potentially lethal respiratory depression. Accordingly, there is a longstanding interest in the development of new opioid analgesics with improved therapeutic profiles. The alkaloids of the Southeast Asian plant Mitragyna speciosa, represented by the prototypical member mitragynine, are an unusual class of opioid receptor modulators with distinct pharmacological properties. Here we describe the first receptor-level functional characterization of mitragynine and related natural alkaloids at the human mu-, kappa-, and delta-opioid receptors. These results show that mitragynine and the oxidized analogue 7-hydroxymitragynine, are partial agonists of the human mu-opioid receptor and competitive antagonists at the kappa- and delta-opioid receptors. We also show that mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine are G-protein-biased agonists of the mu-opioid receptor, which do not recruit β-arrestin following receptor activation. Therefore, the Mitragyna alkaloid scaffold represents a novel framework for the development of functionally biased opioid modulators, which may exhibit improved therapeutic profiles. Also presented is an enantioselective total synthesis of both (−)-mitragynine and its unnatural enantiomer, (+)-mitragynine, employing a proline-catalyzed Mannich−Michael reaction sequence as the key transformation. Pharmacological evaluation of (+)-mitragynine revealed its much weaker opioid activity. Likewise, the intermediates and chemical transformations developed in the total synthesis allowed the elucidation of previously unexplored structure−activity relationships (SAR) within the Mitragyna scaffold. Molecular docking studies, in combination with the observed chemical SAR, suggest that Mitragyna alkaloids adopt a binding pose at the mu-opioid receptor that is distinct from that of classical opioids.

DEA Historically does not comply with their own letter of intent dates
August 30th - The DEA announces it's intent to classify Kratom as a Schedule I.
September 30th is the date announced as the date they will ban.
Historically, it takes them more than 30 days to follow through, especially when it's really dangerous stuff (like bath salts that make people eat faces off). So maybe relax a little and don't dump your herbal blessings. Article is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/kratom/comments/51zcua/why_september_30th_may_not_be_dday_after_all_long/

Letter to the Whitehouse Oversight committee
First go to the form located here: https://oversight.house.gov/whistle/
Next, fill in the agency name as the DEA.
Then paste in this letter, add any additional reasonable thoughts:
Despite overwhelming scientific evidence and first hand testimony of millions of Americans in support of kratom’s safety and efficacy, the DEA Administrator Chuck Rosenberg is trying to classify this TRADITIONAL TEA LEAF as a Schedule 1 drug. This would effectively turn millions of Americans using this plant into felons overnight costing taxpayers millions while obliterating current federal research on the plant. Harsh penalties, such as a felony charge for possessing Kratom (Mitragyna Speciosa) are ineffective, and they severely limit future prospects for jobs, housing, voting rights, food assistance, and education-Prospects that can be permanently damaging, while costing American citizens tax revenue that is better spent on serious crime. The DEA is more interested in maintaining failed drug policies than in making decisions based on scientific evidence. The drug war is a failure. Kratom is a safe alternative with important medicinal uses and has changed the lives of so many Americans. Please contact the DEA. Please request an oversight hearing asking to delay this emergency action. I fear this action by the DEA will only lead to more tragic deaths of victims of the opiate epidemic by effectively casting them back into the current opioid and heroin epidemic. Tragically everything stated above is just the beginning. The grim aftermath of the DEA’s decision is something to seriously consider because we will ALL have to suffer for it. Apart from the issues listed above that we as a nation will be immediately dealing with as a result of this type of ignorant action, there will be a tsunami of copycat synthetics that will flood into the US. This new class of synthetic will be the only choice afforded to those who were originally peacefully taking a historically safe natural plant. It goes without saying how dangerous synthetic drugs are but if elected officials, organizations, and the American public do not act now, a dark new chapter in the failed War on Drugs will spur the overwhelming opioid/heroin epidemic into a spiral that will leave current and future generations of Americans in despair. Take action now and preserve your right to nature’s most precious gifts.

The Success of Kratom For Chronic Pain Fibromyalgia & Multiple Sclerosis
For me this topic is personal. My 69 year old mother suffers from MS. Every so often, her symptoms of feeling like all of her nerve endings are on fire come to a head. She has pain all over. Her doctor gives her an Opiate based prescription, which she can't really take unless she stays in bed, because it puts her at risk for falling. Instead she takes Kratom. Here is a video testimonial on the same topic. Kratom relieves the nerve pain in people who suffer from MS.

Abstract
The neuromuscular blockade produced by pure alkaloid, mitragynine and methanol extract of kratom leaves (Mitragyna speciosa Korth.).
This article, published in the US National Library of Medicine is pasted below. They completed the study quite recently and proved that Kratom is an effective muscle relaxer. No wonder it's so good for pain management.
Abstract
AIM OF THE STUDY:
MATERIALS AND METHODS:
RESULTS:
CONCLUSIONS:
Here is the proof, that big pharma wants to ban Kratom for the benefit of their pocketbooks. It has nothing to do with public safety and they don't care about your health. I personally call for a disbandment of the FDA. I can not believe that the people of this country are required to follow the rules of the same people who classify pizza as a vegetable.
Yes, it's true, they actually declared pizza a vegetable. If that tells you anything about their credibility and how much you can trust them.
Now if you have been using Kratom to better your lives, you must also believe that it is bad for you and dangerous, you must stop immediately because they are so smart, that they KNOW pizza is a vegetable.
I trust that if you have any sense, you will see that the FDA is not at all credible. They are bought and paid for by big pharma. The DEA simply serves the FDA and big pharma. Together they make your entire paycheck in less than 30 seconds, no matter who you are. Your usage of Kratom has dented their pocketbooks. That's right! You, who no longer needed Soboxone. You, the one who no longer needs to live Perkaset after your multiple injuries and surgeries. You reduced your Insulin. You didn't need to check back into the hospital and get more drugs. YOU cost them money, collectively you might have even cost them a paycheck over the course of a year and they are fighting back!
But it's time to turn the tide, and to let them know that we won't take this laying down. I have been reading story after story in the news and on Facebook about how Kratom has changed people's lives for the better. Other articles provide a trail of evidence about big pharma being behind this and about the DEA being way out of line, not even following procedures that they are required to follow before banning a natural substance (Hey DEA, how much did they pay you?) I have decided to put everything I find in one place, so that it can be easily found together and shared.
For my first post, to start displaying the string of evidence, please visit this link: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3670991/
The US National Library of Medicine (A government site) posts an article acknowledging that Kratom cures the withdrawal effects of coming off of Opates. That is right, they not only knew, they have already sturdied it, and have been - at least since this publication in 2008. The article includes many references concludes as the following:
"We report the self-treatment of chronic pain and opioid withdrawal with kratom. The predominant alkaloid of kratom, mitragynine, binds mu- and kappa-opioid receptors, but has additional receptor affinities that might augment its effectiveness at mitigating opioid withdrawal. The natural history of kratom use, including its clinical pharmacology and toxicology, are poorly understood."
"Keywords: Dependence, kratom, molecular screening, opioid, opioid replacement, withdrawal"
Please keep in mind that the DEA has issued an intent to label Kratom as a schedule I drug "because they lack medical research" Here in the public document that the DEA filed they state exactly that. Visit this link:

Not only has the US Government studied it, but they have studied it EXTENSIVELY. Here are a few more articles on public government website:
In this article the government admits tracking decreased opoiate use due to the benefits of Kratom: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17882605https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17882605
Studies show that Kratom demonstrates therapeutic benefit, as well as the potential to be abused (so does alcohol, folks. Alcohol is legal because it's profitable!) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23206666https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23206666
